This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is where you are from, traditions, celebrations and religions.
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read I have written my own legend called The legend of Dat Boi.
We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection: I think that it has helped us to improve our acting and team building skills.

For our production I contributed by being one of the main characters.

Craig Smith

I'm back again and today I'll be talking about one of the most famous writers in the world, he is the creator of the Wonky Donkey and his name is Craig Smith.

He is one of the most famous authors and his first published book the Wonky Donkey has recently overtaken Donald Trumps book in the USA for the most sold book in USA.
He has been writing books and songs for 14 years so far and his first published children's book (the Wonky Donkey) was published in 2009. He was born on the 12 July 1988 so he is 'there for' 30 years of age.

He came into our school on September 20 2018 and sang us all of his songs and books. We all really enjoyed him coming to our school.

My culture

Soooooo hi it's me again.

But anyway I'm going to tell you about my culture.

So I'm half Dutch because my dad is from Holland and my mum is Kiwi.
We basically do what your average Kiwi family does.

I now will tell you a bit about dutch culture.

Christmas

Among the Dutch, Christmas (which lasts two days) is a time of togetherness. Gifts are generally not exchanged. Usually it is celebrated with ones direct, and not extended, family. It’s celebrated on December 25 and 26. There are several activities being organised in Enschede (A place in Holland) during the Christmas holidays.

Easter

The Dutch celebrate two days of Easter (on Sunday and the Monday). During Easter there are various customs like the Easter Bunny, Egg Hunting and Easter Fires. Egg hunting is a game during which decorated eggs, real hard-boiled ones or fake, filled with or made of chocolate candies, of various sizes, are hidden in various places for children to find. Real eggs may further be used in egg tapping contests. Like in many places in the northern and eastern parts of the Netherlands, ‘Paasvuren’ (Easter Fires) are lit on Easter Day at sunset in and around Enschede.

If you want to attend a mass during Easter you can inform about them at your local church.
