Lost - Arie
It was the first class trip that Jonathon had been on, that went out of town, usually it was just to the zoo or something but that was in primary school and now that he had started highschool he was going on the bigger trips.
It was a trip to New Zealand, he was born there, his mother was American though so when his parents divorced he had gone with his mother back to America, it was his first month in highschool so he didn’t really know anyone so as they followed Mr Reece, their teacher, into the forest he examined everyone. He was fascinated to see that their faces were like a river, running through the calm water known as excitement and joy and the booming rapids of homesickness, fear and worry.
They continued to trudge through the mud, leaves and fallen branches and into the drooping trees ahead. As they were enveloped by the darkness he studied the fallen trees, wondering what had happened to them, what horrors and joys had they experienced from the day they were planted to they day they withered and fell, planting new generations of trees that would either live the same peaceful life as their father, or be slaughtered by the wrath and cruelty of deforestation.
He snapped out of his hypnotized state when he heard the crack of thunder in the distance, he had a bad feeling about tonight. He complained too no one in particular saying things like “Maybe we should call it off for tonight but Mr Reece just waved off his worreyed words and said they would be fine and acted like he knew everything, it angered Jonothon but he kept his mouth shut despite wanting to tell him that if something bad happened that it would be on him. He now was almost positive something bad was going on and the hair on his neck pricked up as he got the feeling that he was being watched.
They set out their tents for the night and as it was nearing 10 o’clock at night the rain started and they decided that they should get some rest so they went into their tents and tried to sleep, they eventually dozed off and began to dream. Around 1 in the morning Johnothon was woken by a scream from outside his tent, he rushed out to see what had happened, it was another boy, Mark he thought it was but he couldn’t be sure as it was so dark. He was sprawled on the ground, his leg had been bent and a ugly angle just above the ankle. As everyone slowly came out of the tent they saw his leg and turned away in horror. Mr Reece came out and his phone was up to his ear already calling 911, Jonathan rushed up to him and asked if he was dialling the right number, he corrected it and began to call again only to realize that there was no signal.
